Kollek was instrumental in es-
tablishing the International Jeru-
salem Committee which oversaw 
development in the reunited city.  
Leading professionals from 
around the world, including his-
torian Louis Mumford and archi-
tect Philip Johnson contributed 
to the effort to preserve the city's 
heritage while fostering its de-
velopment and modernization.
